Have identification on your pet such as a collar and a tag. A current rabies tag will usually help reunite you and your pet. An identification tag featuring your phone number and address is helpful too.
Have your pet microchipped. This relatively painless procedure places a tiny microchip containing data about your pet under the skin. Most animal shelters, humane societies and veterinary hospitals have scanners that read the microchip data. This often results in your pet's safe return.
If your pet has none of the above be sure to check with Animal Control daily until you find your pet.
Call all the animal hospitals within a 10 mile radius of your pet's last known location. Dogs can travel great distances when lost whereas cats tend to travel short distances and hide.
